We were approached with an intriguing and crucial requirement: developing a deep learning-based protective wear detection system for the construction industry. The goal was to create an efficient model capable of identifying whether workers were wearing the necessary protective gear. This system needed to integrate seamlessly into real-time video monitoring setups, alerting supervisors instantly about any non-compliance. Our mission was to enhance safety protocols and ensure regulatory compliance in construction sites by providing an automated, reliable solution.

THE PROBLEM

Ensuring all workers on a construction site wear appropriate protective gear is vital for safety but challenging to enforce. Manual monitoring is not only labor-intensive but also prone to oversight, especially on large sites with many workers. The primary challenge was to create a system that could accurately detect various types of protective wear, such as helmets, safety glasses, vests, gloves, and jackets, in real time and alert supervisors promptly. Missing any detail could lead to potential hazards and legal complications, making accuracy paramount

THE SOLUTION

We developed a sophisticated solution using a Deep Learning (YOLO) based architecture tailored for protective wear detection. Our model was trained to recognize a wide range of protective gear and integrated into a real-time video monitoring system. This system continuously analyzes video feeds, identifies any instances of non-compliance, and sends immediate alerts to supervisors. This approach ensures that safety protocols are adhered to without the need for constant human oversight.
